Social posts

Visits and revenue per tweet, Reddit thread and Hacker News item, and posts about you on the chart.

The Social posts page names the post behind each visit from a social network: which tweet, which Reddit thread, which Hacker News item. It also shows the visitors, customers and first-touch revenue that came from that post.

How a visit is matched to a post

Exact linkThe referrer named the post. X sends its t.co short link, which Pathrail matches to the tweet that contains it. Some Reddit apps send the thread URL, and LinkedIn sends its lnkd.in link.
Matched by timingThe network sent only its name. Reddit, Hacker News and YouTube usually do this. The visit goes to the latest post about you on that network in the 72 hours before it, preferring posts that link to you. The table says how many visits were matched this way.
Post unknownNo post about you was found in that window. These visits still count under their source everywhere else in Pathrail.

Where posts come from

Every 30 minutes Pathrail searches Hacker News and Reddit for your domain and for any names you add on the Social posts page. X and Reddit searches are coming soon; until they are on, visits from them are still counted by source, and X visits from a t.co link still show the link. Posts that link to you, or that reach 10 points, appear as notes on the overview chart, at most three a day.

To stop the searches, untick "Search for posts about this site" on the Social posts page.

Instagram and TikTok

These apps never say which post a visitor tapped. Instagram opens links in its own browser and sends no referrer, so Pathrail reads the app's name from the browser instead (Threads and TikTok too), and the visit counts under Instagram rather than Direct. Ads you tag with utm_medium=paid_social or that carry a TikTok click id count as paid and are never given an organic post.

Connect your own account under Your accounts on the Social posts page and visits go to one of your posts:

A story that's upIf you have a story live, the newest one gets the visit, since a link sticker is the only link Instagram lets you tap in a post.
Your recent postsOtherwise the post with the most likes and comments, weighted by how recent it is: Instagram posts fade over a day or two and drop out after a week, TikTok videos fade over a few days and drop out after two weeks.

Instagram needs a Business or Creator account. Posts update every hour, and they also show as notes on the overview chart. Disconnecting keeps the posts already pulled, so past visits keep their post.
